There's a park in San Francisco called Lands End. It's a rocky and windswept shoreline stretching down a small fraction of the California Coast just outside Golden Gate Park. If you walk down the trail a little ways, you'll feel as if you've escaped the city. Lately I've been spending a lot of time wandering the trails and watching the water. I'm particularly drawn to the giant boulders located just off the coast and that's the root of this new series.
Though my work has evolved over the past few years, it ultimately has always related to urban decay an creating a personal history through layers of paint and mark making. While this is still relevant with the process of painting, my recent work has shifted with a focus on nature. This new work is acting as a series of studies as I transition into larger paintings and sculpture.
